Often known at the gunmakers gunmaker James Woodward was in business in 1874 until acquired by James Purdey & Son in 1948.
The company produced its first over & under in 1913 & an improved version in 1921 ( to quote the late & great Geoffrey Boothroyd ), a design highly regarded for its grace & elegance.
In 1995 Purdeys started building Woodward guns again both side by side & over & unders.
